Ryanair Baggage Allowance, Ryanair Excess Baggage Fees & Policy

Ryanair Excess Baggage Fees 2025, Ryanair frequently changes their luggage, much like many individuals frequently switch their undergarments. Although the most recent adjustment to the luggage policy purports to simplify things, many users see it as just another way for the company to get their consumers to part with more pounds or euros. In order to keep costs down and guarantee a quick turnaround at the destination airport without having to wait at baggage reclaim, many Ryanair customers travel lightly and only intend to bring hand luggage. The majority cannot, however, fly with just free hand luggage according to Ryanair’s most recent policy, which currently has the lowest free limit for hand luggage of any airline.

Excess baggage fees for Ryanair

Similar to other airlines, pre-booking your luggage at the time of booking is the most economical method to pay for excess baggage on Ryanair flights. Even if you come back to handle your reservation at a later time, costs will have risen since you first made it. Wait till you’re at the airport, and then you should anticipate more. If you check in with more luggage than you were allowed, you will be charged €/£11 per kilogram for each kilogram over the limit. Fairly speaking, easyJet charges more than Ryanair at £12 per kilogram.

Baggage allowance on Ryanair

Since November 1st, 2018, Ryanair has held the title of meanest airline in terms of complimentary carry-on luggage allowance. Non-priority ticket holders are limited to bringing one small bag that is 40 x 25 x 20 cm on board. There are two types of cabin luggage, with the smallest being somewhat bigger than a large purse or small rucksack, and new baggage containers are available at check-in and every boarding gate.

Allowance for Hand Luggage on Ryanair

Priority boarding customers can check up to two cabin bags ($/£6 per person every trip) into the cabin, along with one compact bag (maximum dimensions: 40 x 25 x 20 cm; no weight restriction; and one cabin bag (maximum dimensions: 55 x 40 x 20 cm; 10kg restriction). Only a small bag is allowed for non-priority travelers to bring on board. You can add a 10kg cabin bag for £10 at the time of booking if the flight’s cabin bag restriction has been reached and you need to bring along more than a small bag, or you can choose from the hold baggage choices if you need to bring along larger bags.

Allowance for Checked Baggage on Ryanair

Per ticket, travelers may purchase a maximum of three checked bags. At the time of booking, 20 kilograms of check-in luggage cost €/£35 per flight, per bag. Expect to pay £50 / EUR 50 for each additional bag if added to the reservation at a later time or at the airport. The maximum weight for a single item is 32 kilograms, so buying two check-in bags is far more economical than paying the excess baggage fee of €11 per kilogram, which might cost you as much as €132 if you arrive at the airport with a 32 kg bag even if you only purchased a 20 kg bag. It would only cost an additional €25 or £25 to reserve two 20-kg bags online, giving you up to 40kg of total luggage.
Special Baggage on Ryanair

You are welcome to bring along a variety of specific things, such as sporting goods; consult the table of baggage costs for more information. Each fee is for one item, one flight, and a maximum weight of 20kg. Pre-booked sporting equipment that weighs more than the allowed allowance is subject to the usual excess baggage penalties (€/£11). The 32-kg upper restriction still stands. If you are going on a ski vacation and want to bring both skis and boots in different bags, you will have to pay an additional €/£180 in total for your flight, making renting in resort a far more affordable choice.

You can now measure your hand luggage on the Ryanair app to see if it complies with the updated baggage regulations. The app, which was released in April 2019, attempts to allay your concerns about having to pay extra to get your handbags into the cabin. As you can see below, the children’s Trunki case has already failed the test and is not eligible for free travel;
